Six YSU students are on the road – overseas – this summer on study abroad trips.
- Floyd E. Kenney, a biology major from Canfield, is traveling to Nicosia, Cyprus, to continue his education in the Global Learning Semesters medical program. Kenney is the recipient of a $2,500 Gilman Scholarship.
- Michael Aviles of Lorain, Ohio, a physics major and a math minor, is traveling to South Korea to study genetics and the Korean language. Aviles is a $3,000 Gilman Scholarship award winner .
And the following students are going to Nicosia, Cyprus, to study this summer:
- Timothy Shaffer of Mercer, Pa., a pre-med major.
- Sophia Santisi of Youngstown, a chemistry and pre-med major.
- Kathleen Gallagher of Struthers, Ohio.
- Michel Kordupel of Boardman, Ohio,, a junior biology major.
The Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program offers grants for undergraduate students who are Pell Grant recipients the means to pursue academic studies abroad. The program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education.
