Youngstown State University accounting students continued their winning ways at the Beta Alpha Psi Midwest Region competition, placing first in the Best Practices competition at the meeting in Indianapolis in late March.
YSU’s BAP teams have now placed first or second in Midwest Regional Best Practices competitions for the last seven consecutive years.
“Our students put in a tremendous amount of time preparing for the competition, and their accomplishment shows that hard work and dedication pay off,” said Ray Shaffer, faculty advisor and the director of the Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance at YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration.
“Placing first or second for seven years in a row, in the largest region in the country, demonstrates the quality and professionalism of our students and their ability to compete at the national level.”
The YSU team placed first in the Best Practices Competition using the topic of Collaboration. The YSU BAP chapter is working with the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to assist the American University of Sharjah in starting their own BAP chapter.
Four YSU student members attended the Midwest Regional meeting, accompanied by faculty advisors Shaffer and Wayne Counts. The YSU team consisted of Steven Wright of Poland, Andrew Pizzulo of Hubbard, Mike McKinney of Youngstown and Christopher Trucksis of Austintown. More than 244 students from 38 different colleges were represented at the regional meeting; 13 colleges presented in the Best Practices division.
The team now advances to compete at the BAP National Conference in Atlanta in August.
Beta Alpha Psi is a professional organization for students majoring in accounting, finance, and information systems. BAP provides opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encourages a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.
